Tuesday to Thursday

Tuesday
This morning we head to Oswaldtwistle Mills where you will have the morning to enjoy some shopping.
We make a lunch stop before we continue to Gawthorpe Hall. Gawthorpe Hall was redesigned in the 1850's by the architect Sir Charles Barry, designer of the House of Parliament. The modest Hall houses the North West's largest collection of portraits on loan from the National Gallery as well as the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection. Gawthorpe Hall was the final stop on "The Bronte Way" a long distance route with strong associations with the writings of Charlotte Bronte and the Family.
We then head back to your Hotel where you will enjoy your evening meal.

Wednesday
This morning we head off to Samlesbury Hall, one of the stunning homes of Lancashire, a haven for History lovers, where the past meets the present. Enjoy intrigue, witchcraft and centuries of fascinating history throughout their archive rooms, enjoy a coffee and a scone or a delicious lunch, or why not treat yourself to a freshly cooked waffle in Dotties. Before we leave remember to throw a penny into the fountain and make a wish!
We then head back to your Hotel where you will enjoy your evening meal.
Depending on the time of year we may head out after dinner and make our way across to Blackpool to view the world-famous illuminations.

Thursday
This morning after breakfast we make the journey south toward Manchester to visit one of the newest additions to the Royal Horticultural Society family, RHS Bridgewater. Here we enjoy a fully guided tour of the Gardens, set across 154 acres of glorious gardens, and step inside the walls of the Paradise Garden with it's awe-inspiring blend of Mediterranean and Asiatic planting.
Depending on the time we may head across to the Trafford Centre for a little retail therapy before heading back to the hotel for our final night.

Please note: The actual itinerary may be in a different order.

Samlesbury & Gawthrope Halls

Two historic houses located in Lancashire, England

Samlesbury Hall dates back to the 14th century, and its history is intertwined with various influential families over the centuries. It was originally built in 1325 by Gilbert de Southworth and has undergone modifications and additions throughout its history. The hall is known for its distinctive black and white timber-framed Tudor architecture, a characteristic style of the period. The building has a rich architectural heritage, including a Great Hall with a ornate hammerbeam roof.

Gawthorpe Hall was built in the early 17th century, around 1600, by the Shuttleworth family. The house has associations with the local textile industry, and its construction was funded by profits from the family's successful textile business. The hall is constructed in the Jacobean style, characterized by its symmetrical façade, mullioned windows, and ornate chimneys. The architecture reflects the trends of the early 17th century and provides insight into the lifestyle of the gentry during that period.

RHS Bridgewater

RHS Bridgewater is situated on the site of the historic Worsley New Hall in Salford, approximately 5 miles west of Manchester city center. The garden is located on a 154-acre site that was historically part of the estate of the Duke of Bridgewater. The Worsley New Hall, which once stood on the site, was demolished in the 1940s. The RHS acquired the site in 2010 with plans to create a new horticultural destination.
